Along with designer Catherine Fulmer, Avi Oster recently hosted Southern Crawl, an event featuring a re-launch of Fulmer’s Fall 2011 women’s collection. This intimate event combined fashion and music to best provide guests with a feel for the inspiration behind Fulmer’s seasonally influenced new fall line.
Fulmer’s latest collection was inspired by a recent trip to the South. Both the colors and the materials used in the line were evidence of the powerful influence Fulmer’s trip had upon her sense of design. The Fall re-launch was Fulmer’s attempt to add some warmth to the typical black and white color palate she typically relies upon. Drawing upon the warn Southern vibe Fulmer felt during her trip, she incorporated darker oranges, forest greens, and other earth tones to warm up pieces in her fall line. Fulmer also changed up her usual style of design by incorporating washed silks, corduroy velveteen, and other textured materials to achieve a deeper, richer feel.
Oster, who has been a long time supporter of Fulmer, was extremely happy to be a part of the re-launch, “I was glad to help Cat re-launch her line, especially after I saw it in action — cutting-edge, yet remarkably elegant, all Catherine Fulmer.”
The Southern Crawl was held at the Bowery Poetry Club and featured entertainment provided by some well known artists. Soul singer Marla Joy put on a captivating performance along with DJ Paul Sevigny who was able to keep the crowd energized and set the upbeat pace for the event.
