Securing a private jet charter has always been a hallmark of the rich and famous in America, but now it is becoming a growing trend for middle class families as well. Long considered a symbol of wealth and luxury, private jets have been out of reach of most people for decades due to ticket prices that average a whopping $4,500 per hour, easily rivaling the monthly salary for many potential customers. However, due to the rise of empty-leg flights private charter jet tickets are now more accessible to these individuals than anybody would have ever dreamed just a few short years ago.

The secret to this unlikely opportunity rests in the one-way luxury charters that so many affluent individuals book to take them to and from distant cities. The chartering company needs to pay for jet fuel and crew members for both legs of the trip even though the passenger is only on board for one leg of the voyage. The other half, called the empty leg, has traditionally been a loss for the chartering agency–until now. These jet charter companies have adapted to the problem by offering low cost jet tickets to commercial passengers in order to reduce the expense of flying an empty plane back to the company headquarters.

These empty leg deals offer a unique chance for less affluent individuals to charter their own private jets for a fraction of the original cost, but they are not without limitations. Potential customers need to be flexible in their departure time and date to secure one of these deals, and cannot arrive late for their flight. However, if the customer is willing to take the tickets as they come it is possible to negotiate a ticket for 50% of a commercial round-trip rate to the same location.
